INSTRUCTOR: MELISSA HAKKERS
If you've ever wanted to write a children's book for a special child or you think you've got a publishable idea but need direction, WRITING FOR CHILDREN: WHERE DO I BEGIN? HOW DO I PROCEED? is your first step. In this intimate, 3-hour workshop, award-winning children's book author Melissa Hekkers will guide you through the ins and outs of this deceptively challenging genre, while giving you inspiration and the essential tools needed to write the children's book you've always wanted to write.
MELISSA HEKKERS was born 1981 in Brussels, Belgium, and since 2004 she has been living and working in Nicosia, Cyprus. In 2007 she published her first children’s book in both English and Greek entitled CROCODILE, which won the Cyprus State Illustration Award of the same year. In 2012, she launched her second children’s book FLYING ACROSS RED SKIES (English and Greek), an experimental approach to literature, for which she was nominated for the Cyprus State Literary award. A year later she diverted from writing for children and published her first poetry book COME-FORTH. In 2014, her third children’s book PUPA (Greek and English) was very well received. Melissa is a freelance journalist, columnist and features writer for The Cyprus Weekly and other magazines and online platforms. Her work can be viewed at melissahekkers.com.
