We're taking Story Craft on the road this summer for two special workshops at WriterHouse in Charlottesville, Virginia. If you're in our neck of the woods in August, drop by. If not, look for a new run of Story Craft courses in Nicosia at our new digs in Old Pallouriotissa starting Spring 2019.

WORKSHOP

Plot Part 1: From Conception to Story

This four-hour creative writing workshop with author Max Sheridan will show aspiring and more experienced writers how to concept and develop plots for their stories. Using Kurt Vonnegut’s ideas on “story shapes” as a springboard, we’ll see how plots typically evolve according to basic principles. We’ll also look at the ideas of pacing (a story’s rhythm) and conflict (tension), and explore two different techniques for concepting plots from scratch. In class, writers will concept and begin a short story based on a prompt given by the instructor, which they will complete at home. Writers attending the second workshop will have the opportunity to workshop their completed stories in class.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Max Sheridan lives and writes in Nicosia, Cyprus. His short fiction and articles have been published widely in the US, UK and elsewhere. His novel Dillo was released in 2017 by Shotgun Honey. When he isn’t writing, Max is the director of Write CY, a Nicosia-based platform for creative writing and community storytelling. At Write CY, Max teaches Story Craft, a course on short story writing, and Creative Blogging, a course in creative web content writing.
