FROM THE ORIGINAL LINER NOTES:

We've been trying to get local celebrity haiku artist Fortino Samano a contract with a major American producer for years. But it's a cold industry fact: haikus in Cypriot about muscle cars with shorty exhausts and dumbass career politicians just don't sell as well as Britney Spears at 40. There are other factors that have led to Samano's artistic isolation. For one, Mr. Samano simply eschews the literary establishment to such a degree that he's become an outcast, a rebel and one of the most poorly grossing celebrity haiku artists of all time on both sides of the Adriatic. Samano's rebelliousness has had a noticeable effect on the quality of his performances, driving him to spite the industry that has been so spiteful to him by recording more frequently and under increasingly technically shoddy conditions. His last performance at Prozak Kafeneio at Write CY's fifth Open Mic Night, for example, was recorded on a fourth generation iPhone. But for all that, the quality of the work remains intact. These 6 haikus are clearly Samano performing at the top of his game, with a shot of gently iced Commandaria waiting for him on his table next to a bowl of peanuts in their skins, surrounded by friends and supporters, and the occasional heckler. Whether Mr. Samano will ever find an international market for his poems—indeed, whether he will ever become the popular artist he seems so desperately bent on not becoming, is a question that will very likely never be pondered by anyone.
