Place-Making Poetry

This is a three-session poetry writing workshop exploring the various nuances of place and its representations in verse.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

This is a three-session poetry writing workshop exploring the various nuances of place and its representations in verse.

The first session is peripatetic; we will walk through the city, taking note of the details around us. We will also read and discuss published poems in English about space, inquiring how nature, community, and geography feature therein. In turn, we will experiment through writing exercises, and draw from personal experience to create our own testaments of place, both of Nicosia and beyond. For this session, participants are advised to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Also bring water and writing materials.

The second and third sessions will incorporate additional writing exercises as well as peer review. In the end, each participant will produce a portfolio of three edited poems, which they may share (if they so wish) at one of Write CY’s Open Mic nights.

This workshop is geared toward both beginner and advanced poets.

This is a recurring event. See all sessions.
